At The Soapbox, we’re touched by the outpouring of support for our first line responders and our Philadelphia communities. While many are suffering severe or total income loss, those with the means are supporting our community through donations, making PPE, donating blood, and distributing meals to neighbors.
On #GivingTuesdayNow, please donate to our community’s most urgent needs if you are able by supporting the following three organizations:
If you’re supporting the arts today, consider investing in The Soapbox’s sustainability.
Invest in us today to become a champion of creativity in our Philadelphia community. Bread yes, but roses, too? You get to decide what we see on the other side of this current health and economic crisis. Do you believe the arts should be part of this? If you believe in the power of the arts to inspire us, advocate for our needs, and buoy our spirits, consider supporting The Soapbox today.
The Soapbox spent the month of March continuously adapting our operations to follow all government and CDC advice, putting strict measures in place to protect our members, Fellows, volunteers, and visitors — while providing studio access for our members as long as possible. During Philadelphia’s Stay-at-Home order, The Soapbox’s studio has been closed to both our members and to visitors.
Because we deeply value our community, as well as creativity and self-expression, we’ve felt this closure keenly. This closure also has damaging financial implications for The Soapbox, the community print shop & library you’ve been following and supporting through our journey from a tiny rowhouse studio to our beautiful new studio at 4700 Kingsessing. Income from workshops and studio memberships provides 47% of our operating funds and we don’t know when we’ll be able to charge for these again. This decline, along with the very real possibility that our private studio members will not all be able to afford their studio rental, has significantly affected our income to the extent that our long-term sustainability could very soon be compromised.
That’s why I would like to ask you if you would consider helping us through this incredibly difficult period by investing in our future today, if you are currently in a position to give? Through a special #GivingTuesdayNow initiative, your donation today will be partially matched by the #Nonprofit Matching-Fund Initiative, making your dollars go farther.
I am enormously proud of The Soapbox’s role in Philadelphia’s cultural life and the incredibly positive impact The Soapbox has had on the lives of so many by providing access to the tools of self-expression, uplifting community voices through our programming, and preserving our community’s stories through our library. I am determined that come what may we must go on to enrich people’s lives long into the future, and I hope you are in a position to help ensure this is the case by giving a donation today.
With my sincere thanks and very best wishes to you and yours,
