What kind of membership is right for you?

Are you looking to pursue projects in the studio, produce a letterpress or silkscreen edition, or make The Soapbox your primary studio? Want to be in the studio as often as possible? If yes, consider a Keyholder Membership, allowing you access all day, seven days a week. Are you interested in checking out the studio, printing, bookbinding, or making paper a few times a month? If yes, check out our Open Hours membership, which allows you to use the studio during our weekly open hours. Please note that our papermaking studio is available to Keyholders only, due to the nature of the process. We also offer a limited number of private studios; please inquire for details.

Want to support The Soapbox, learn all about how we operate, and use the studio as much as possible? Consider applying for our Soapbox Fellowship.

Just want to show your love for The Soapbox? Become a Supporter member with a monthly donation and also enjoy discounts on workshops!

Keyholder and Open Hours memberships begin after a New Member Orientation has been completed. Members may be asked to complete a workshop before working in designated studio areas.

Soapbox Memberships

Keyholder Members: $95-$120/month

Keyholder members enjoy independent access to the studio from 8 am to 10 pm daily, including papermaking. Keyholder members also enjoy discounts on Soapbox workshops. Keyholder membership requires a brief application demonstrating experience in their desired studio area* and an orientation to the studio ($35 orientation fee).

  • One-year commitment: $95/month
  • Six-month commitment: $105/month
  • Three-month commitment: $120/month
  • One-month refundable deposit for all commitment levels.

Open Hours Member: $30/month

Enjoy access to our studio during our regular twice-a-week Open Hours. It’s a great way to get to know the space. Open Hours are monitored but do not provide instruction. All Open Hours Members must have experience in the area they desired to work in, or must take a Soapbox workshop in that area prior to initiating their membership*. Open Hours Members are also required to attend an orientation to the studio ($20 orientation fee).

Soapbox Fellows

Soapbox Fellows help run Soapbox Open Hours and assist with other events and needs of the organization. In exchange, Fellows enjoy keyholder access to the studio, while also building skills in non-profit arts management. Soapbox Fellows are required to volunteer a minimum of five hours/week and to make a six-month commitment. Our initial group of Soapbox Fellows has been selected. Any applications we receive now will be reviewed in the spring for any April 1 openings.

Supporter Member: sliding scale

This membership allows you to support The Soapbox’s work through a supporting membership. You’ll enjoy the standard member discount on workshops. Supporting members can make a monthly gift, with the amount depending on their financial means.

To learn more about membership or anything else, feel free to contact us.

*Please note that some studio equipment may require a separate orientation or workshop, e.g. the Hollander beater or platen press. Papermaking equipment is ineligible for Open Hours use due to noise levels and time intensiveness.
