This Saturday – Come and Print with Us!

We’re excited to participate in the Writers Room at Drexel’s Dornsife Center‘s  National Endowment for the Arts Big Read programming this Saturday, October 22.

Letters for Zora”is part of a series of events dedicated to the work of Zora Neale Hurston and her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. The Soapbox will lead participants in letterpress printing covers for a collaborative zine.

This workshop is free, but limited to 20 participants. Reserve your spot at

Content for the zine includes community contributions in response to the novel. If you’d like to contribute a page, you have until Thursday, October 20. Find out about submitting content here.

In the 2 1/2 hour Letters for Zora workshop, our group will learn the basics of letterpress printing – setting wood type on a basic table-top press – and everyone will try their hand at printing. By the end of the morning, we will have a stack of hand printed covers. Participants will get a deluxe edition of the zine featuring their hand-printed covers, and their cover design will be used for a fully photocopied version of the design which will be distributed to the community for free.
