“Letters for Zora”is part of a series of events dedicated to the work of Zora Neale Hurston and her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. The Soapbox will lead participants in letterpress printing covers for a collaborative zine.
This workshop is free, but limited to 20 participants. Reserve your spot at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/letters-for-zora-letterpress-workshop-tickets-28442401990.
Content for the zine includes community contributions in response to the novel. If you’d like to contribute a page, you have until Thursday, October 20. Find out about submitting content here.
In the 2 1/2 hour Letters for Zora workshop, our group will learn the basics of letterpress printing – setting wood type on a basic table-top press – and everyone will try their hand at printing. By the end of the morning, we will have a stack of hand printed covers. Participants will get a deluxe edition of the zine featuring their hand-printed covers, and their cover design will be used for a fully photocopied version of the design which will be distributed to the community for free.
