We’ll be participating in PrintThink 2016, a one-day printmaking conference held at Tyler School of Art. This year’s program focuses on “the local and the cosmopolitan.” As such, the afternoon features a fair full of demonstrations and information by your favorite community print shops and projects — not only across Philadelphia, but from as far away as Pittsburgh, Richmond, and Maine.
Visit The Soapbox’s area in Tyler’s printmaking studio to try your hand at a couple of printmaking techniques on the Signmaker letterpress, and bind your own commemorative PrintThink notebook. Ask us questions and learn more about membership when we re-open in our larger, shinier studio.
You can find the schedule and registration details at tyler.temple.edu/print-think-2016.
As a community print shop, we exist to provide access to large and costly equipment by sharing resources, yes — but we also believe strongly in the creative ferment of the shared and collaborative workspace. In a community print shop, you can get feedback, creative ideas, and technical troubleshooting help from fellow artists in the space — and build a rapport that extends beyond the camaraderie of working side by side. We believe in the local, in the exchange of information, and, of course, in community. If we don’t see you at PrintThink, we look forward to seeing you in our studios later this year.
Love from The Soapbox!
