The Soapbox Status Update

Updated April 18, 2021

Wow, what a year it has been! As vaccinations become more widely available, we look forward to inviting more people back into the studio. At the same time, we’re keenly aware of coronavirus case counts going up in Philadelphia and the surrounding area, as it is many other places. We deeply value the health and safety of our community, and are still operating on a modified basis right now. An update on our current operations:

WORKSHOPS & EVENTS are currently all taking place remotely — online and by mail. You can view our schedule here to create with others across Philadelphia and even around the world.

MEMBERSHIP is currently operating on a Keyholder model. Members must be comfortable and competent working independently in an unmonitored studio. We have implemented the expected safety protocol around mask wearing and social distancing, and are limiting the number of members in the shared studio at any given time. Please see our Membership Page for more information.

OPEN HOURS & ZINE LIBRARY ACCESS are on hold for the foreseeable future, while the risk of community transmission of the coronavirus remains high. During this time, we continue to make studio and library improvements, catalog zines, and take zine, equipment, and supply donations. We look forward to restoring public hours when it is safer to do so.

CAN I VISIT THE SOAPBOX? Right now, we can only offer tours on a very limited basis to individuals with an active Studio Membership application in review. Generally speaking, our current staffing and studio operations do not allow for tours. We look forward to this changing later in the year.

For the most up-to-date information on our operations, join our email list (and make sure we’re on your safe senders list!), or follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

Vaccines are now available to all Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians 16 and older. To schedule a vaccine in Philadelphia, fill out the Vaccine Interest Form on the City’s website and they will follow up by email, text, and phone with invitations to schedule at an available date and location, or call 3-1-1 to express interest. For elsewhere in Pennsylvania, the PA DOH has a map of vaccination providers here.

Throughout a year of pandemic and politics, The Soapbox is empowering the community to create wherever they are. To donate so that we can reach more people in 2021, visit our contributions form. Please consider a monthly contribution if you are able, which supports our sustainability even more.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with questions!

Sincerely, with all the best wishes for your health and well-being,

The Soapbox
