Workshop leaders

  • Corey Bechelli draws comics and makes zines. For 20 years he's been printing and self publishing weirdo little books, and has displayed his work at zine fests, comic shows, flea markets, and art book fairs throughout the country.

  • Olivia Caro is a current member at the Soapbox, whose work in papermaking and book arts focuses on themes of identity and home. They are a teaching artist fellow with ArtistYear and have assisted with and taught workshops at the Soapbox, Penland School of Crafts, Atlanta Printmakers Studio, the Dallas GA Public Library, and Grinnell College.

  • As a book artist and printmaker, Donna approaches her work from the dual standpoints of physical structure and emotional narrative. Her exploration of the physical construction methods of book structures informs the content of her work; and the narrative, in turn, informs the structure.

  • Marcy Gooberman is a graphic designer, illustrator, and animator in West Philly. She has a passion for the risograph machine and has printed her illustrations and posters for friends' events. She's currently working on a YA mini-comic that she will be printing on the Soapbox riso.

  • Rachel Gordon is an artist and musician from Brooklyn, New York. Since earning a BFA in Printmaking from SUNY Purchase in 2015, she has maintained a studio practice with an emphasis on screenprinting and collage.

  • Dre Grigoropol is an illustrator and multimedia artist. She is a graduate of Moore College of Art and Design. Dre has years of art teaching experience. She has a deep passion for arts and creativity, enjoys painting, is involved in numerous artist groups, and is a board member and key holder at the Soapbox. For more go to Dretime.net

  • Instructor Marisha Simons earned her MFA in BookArts & Printmaking from the University of the Arts and her BA from Colorado College. She currently teaches book arts, screenprint and letterpress at the University of the Arts and Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Marisha is a Studio Key Holder at the Soapbox where she creates printed textiles and editioned prints. You can learn more about her work on social media @marishasimonsdesigns

  • Alina Wang is a visual artist living and working on unceded Lenape land (Philadelphia). Through image-making, she explores gesture, process, materiality, and what it means to document and remember.

Philly Zine Fest

The Soapbox currently organizes the Philly Zine Fest, Philadelphia’s longest-running small press festival, co-sponsored with The Rotunda in West Philly and Temple University. See phillyzinefest.org for more information about planned events and to sign up for the mailing list.
