Seeking an Executive Director

The Soapbox Community Print Shop and Zine Library seeks a part-time Executive Director. The Soapbox is a non-profit art studio offering programming and studio access in book and paper arts, including letterpress, screen printing, paper making, book binding, risograph, and zines. The Soapbox is primarily a volunteer-run organization and the Executive Director and Board President will jointly guide the organization.
The executive director will manage day-to-day operations of the studio and administration, with the support of the part-time Studio and Membership Facilitator and the volunteer board. The executive director reports to the working board.
The ideal candidate will be excited to support the Soapbox artist community. They will have strong administrative skills and an attention to detail, as well as a commitment to consensus, social justice, and book and paper arts.
Hours, Compensation, and Benefits
10 hours/week
Schedule can be flexible but the Executive Director must be present at least once a month during the studio’s Open Hours (Wednesdays 6-9 pm and Sundays 1-5 pm)
Option to increase hours in tandem with increased revenue
Compensation: $22/hour

Responsibilities include:
Be a positive and welcoming face for The Soapbox, (specific schedule is flexible, but they should expect to be in the studio during Open Hours at least once a month)
Manage and support Studio Facilitator and Membership Coordinator
Coordinate monthly purchasing with Studio Facilitator and Membership Coordinator
Field general inquiries
Coordinate with the working board to manage projects and operations
Develop and manage partnership programs
Support Studio Facilitator and Membership Coordinator in building management
Coordinate bookkeeping with Board Treasurer and/or bookkeeper
The ideal candidate will have
Excellent time and priorities management skills;
Ability to work independently, while maintaining strong communication about their activities and areas where support is needed;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Experience with or comfort learning Soapbox project management systems including Google Suite, Jotforms, and Asana;
Strong administrative skills;
3-5 years experience in arts administration or similar work.

The Soapbox is a West Philadelphia-based 501c3 non-profit that fosters the creative and political voices of the community. By providing resources, equipment, and instruction in printing, binding, and related self-publication arts, The Soapbox seeks to empower individuals and non-profit community organizations to disseminate information and creative voices.
